An age declaration where it's needed, and nowhere else
If your shop sells alcohol, tobacco, CBD or other age-restricted products, you need customers to declare that they are over 18. Many solutions put a popup in front of every visitor on every page. That annoys people who only want spices, tea or a gift, and hurts the shopping experience.
The WSC Age Verification for Restricted Products module only asks for age-restricted products. It requires a declaration at checkout and saves its time with the order, so you can always see who declared what and when.
Why it's worth it
🏷️ You decide what counts as age-restricted
Mark products by product feature, e.g. "Age limit = 18+", by category, including subcategories, or individually. You can also set exceptions: alcohol-free beer can stay among the beers without triggering a declaration.
💬 A popup only for restricted products
On the page of a restricted product or a selected category, the question appears: "Are you over 18?" A "Yes" answer is remembered for a period you set. "No" takes the visitor to a page of your choice. Optionally, an 18+ badge is shown on the product page.
🛒 It asks when adding to cart, too
If a customer adds a restricted product from a product list or quick view, the question appears first, and only then is the product added to the cart. So listing pages aren't skipped either.
✅ Mandatory declaration at checkout
If the cart contains a restricted product, a mandatory declaration appears at checkout among PrestaShop's own terms checkboxes. Until the customer ticks it, they can't place the order. If there's no restricted product in the cart, the declaration doesn't appear at all.
🧾 Every declaration leaves a trace
The order page shows when the customer accepted the declaration. If an order with restricted products somehow arrives without a declaration, a red warning flags it, so it won't slip past you.
🎂 Birth date is taken into account
If the birth date in the customer's account shows they are an adult, no popup is shown. If they are a minor, they can't order restricted products.
🎨 Fits your branding
Write the popup text in the familiar editor, with images, links and formatting, per language. The buttons are your theme's buttons, and custom CSS lets you fine-tune the look.
🧪 Test before going live
In test mode, only you and the IP addresses you specify see it in action; customers see nothing. On the Check tab, you can test whether a product is restricted and which rule applies, and get a list of all products that count as restricted.
Good to know
- The module asks for a self-declaration; it does not verify age. The actual check happens on delivery, by the courier or at in-store pickup.
- The popup doesn't hide product page content from search engines; the page stays indexable.
- It uses a single functional cookie that contains no personal data.
- The module handles the technical side of the declaration; it is not a substitute for legal advice.
When you don't need it
If your shop has no age-restricted products, you don't need this module. But if only part of your range is age-restricted, that's exactly where it shines: other customers aren't bothered at all.
